DrDAQ oscilloscope software

DrDAQ uses the same software as the professional instruments that are manufactured by Pico Technology. This gives students valuable experience for their future careers.

• Software supplied with DrDAQ:
• PicoLog is used for data logging over long periods of time
• PicoScope can analyse rapidly changing signals. For example using the internal microphone and PicoScope's trigger functions it is easy to display both the sound waveform and spectrum of a drum beat.
• DrDAQ is also supplied with a software library of science experiments. Both student and teachers versions are supplied. Teachers versions contain results graphs and settings to configure the software to be ready to perform the experiment at the click of a button.

PicoScope and PicoLog are compatible with any PC running Windows 3.1x, 95/98, NT/2000, ME or XP.

PicoScope

DrDAQ is supplied with PicoScope software which turns a PC into an oscilloscope, spectrum analyser and a meter. This enables high speed signals to be analysed. Waveforms can be annotated with notes and printed, saved or exported to other applications. PicoScope is both flexible and easy to use. For example, a click on a menu option can set DrDAQ up to log data for a particular experiment and display instructions.

The ability to save waveforms means teachers can have a library of waveforms on disk showing the correct results.

	The oscilloscope shows a display of voltage against time. If offers all the same functions as a conventional 'benchtop' scope with the benefits of a PC. Regular scope users will feel at home with the usual timebase and trigger options (including pre-trigger), but will welcome the advantages of other useful features. Display options include averaging for noise reduction and a min/max envelope mode to highlight signal changes. Trigger options include auto, repeat and single shot triggers. A 'save to disk' mode allows intermittent signals to be recorded.
	The spectrum analyser shows the amount of energy in each of a number of frequency bands. The spectrum analyser has the same trigger options as the oscilloscope. This makes it possible to capture the spectrum of a 'one off' event such as a single drum beat.
	The meter displays one or more parameters as numbers, together with an optional bar graph. The multimeter displays AC volts (true RMS), DC volts, or frequency for a signal. Other parameters can be displayed (e.g. pressure or acceleration) by adding custom ranges.
